Advantages as Flux over dolomite:

Use of Pyroxenite in blast furnaces directly or through sinter as flux is practiced by many steel plants. It has given the following advantages over Dolomite:

1) Both Mg_O and SiO₂ are available in Pre - assimilated from.
2) Replaces Quartzite and reduces the usage of Dolomite
3) Improvement in the Blast furnaces.
a) Productivity increases by 4 - 5 %
b) Decrease in coke rate by approx. 20 Kg. Per tonne of Hot Metal.
